School has been kicking my butt. Only 3 more projects/papers for the semester though. Woo Hoo.

I'm preparing to register for my last 2 classes of my grad program, and I still feel like my advisor has no idea who I am or that I am in the program. Should I be concerned?

So, I finally saw Burton's re-make of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Outstanding, Quirky, visually stunning. That is a little bit of how I feel. Am I hiding too much. I loved this flick. It didn't copy the original, and held its own as a unique film. The Oompa Loompas were weird, but the tribute to 80's metal salvaged the character. Johnny Depp was perfectly strange as Willy Wonka. Cynical, compared to Wilder's bitter Wonka. The kids, minus Charlie, were all made into perfect brats, and I couldn't wait to see them get owned by the factory.
All in all, it is a great film, and I can't wait to add it to my collection

Bang! The Witch is Dead

So, I watched another good scary movie last night. House of Wax is actually pretty good. There were definitely enough freak-out-the-viewer moments and it was gory, granted it was kind of cheesy gore. Tension is how a film gets to me and this has some good tense moments. Plus, you get to see Paris Hilton get a pipe through her head. Check it out!

Can I just say that this is my favorite week to watch TV. It seems like every channel has something scary on. I love the shows that try to get you to believe that ghosts are real. I have no concrete opinion on the matter, but it sure is creepy to think about.

One more mention of Maylene & the Sons of Disaster and then I'm done. I promise. I was trying to think of a way to describe the sound to anyone who hasn't heard. Here's what I came up with: Maylene sounds like a Bermuda Triangle of sound, with the triangle points being made up of AC/DC, Lynard Skynard, and Norma Jean. If you don't know who any of these bands are look them up. By that I mean Norma Jean, because if you don't know who AC/DC & Skynard are you need to quit reading now and give yourself a swirly.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://shesmyrushmore.blogspot.com/2005/10/bang-witch-is-dead.html' title='Bang! Their cd comes out today and I will have it soon. Can I just say that Target is really letting me down. I got a raincheck for the Batman Begins SE (2-disc) and they are not getting more copies. I don't get it. If I can order it on their website, why can't they just send some to their stores? Ugh, retail.

So, the other night I was home alone and rented High Tension. It is a French horror flick, which sounds weird to begin with. But, based on some online recommendations, I checked it out. Needless to say I was creeped out. The overdubbing was a little strange, but I'm not a big fan of reading movies. There were large parts of film without dialogue, so it didn't matter too much. Apparently, I got the unedited version, and it was the goriest film I have ever seen. Real gore, not fake zombie or Kill Bill gore. There were times that I had to cover my eyes to avoid nausea.
BUT, the tension was awesome. This movie really gets in your head. I had to take breaks to come back to reality. I won't say anything about plot, because it pisses me off when people start talking about the plot and give away too much, even if it is unintentional. FYI: A good rule of thumb when discussing any movie with someone who hasn't seen it: If there is a plot twist, by telling me there is a twist, you are already giving away too much. Thanks
If you like horror/thriller movies check out High Tension.

My First Time

So, the first time is not as bad as everyone says it is.
This blog will be simply a place for me to wax poetic about music, movies, tv and occasionally video games.
